Prior to the conversion of a Grade II former brewery in Edinburgh into good quality residential accommodation, the City of Edinburgh Council requested assurance of sufficient daylight levels to the new residential units within the historic buildings.
To address the concern, TFT’s Daylight & Sunlight consultants undertook several daylight assessments of the proposed habitable rooms to show that it was possible to continue with the conversion in line with national daylight & sunlight standards.
Our recommended assessments were integral in helping to develop the scheme proposals in order to optimise the daylight levels, allowing this historic building to be revitalised. The daylight study was essential in demonstrating to the local planning authority that it was possible to create a high standard of residential accommodations within such a building.
We worked closely with the design team to advise on optimal room layouts that ensured the rooms met the required BRE guidelines.
