TFT were employed as Project Manager, Employer’s Agent, Principal Designer and Party Wall Surveyor for the remodelling of Roaring Meg Retail Park. The delightfully titled Roaring Meg Retail Park, named after a cannon used by the Earl of Northampton during the Civil War, is a 299,000sq ft retail park with key tenants including Debenhams, Toys R Us, Boots and Argos.
The works involved the demolition of existing units and replacing them with 160,000sq ft of retail space consisting of 4 new retail units designed to achieve BREEAM “Very Good”. Stage 1 involved the demolition of a 30,000sq ft unit and replacing it with three new units totalling 45,000sq ft which was achieved in under 6 months. Stage 2 involved the demolition and replacement of an existing unit which is being occupied by Debenhams. The other three units are also now occupied.
The site itself was not without challenges. The retail park remained trading throughout the works whilst the site itself was heavily congested with underground services. TFT procured earlier surveys which identified a culverted river and trunk sewer.
